The Congress Working Committee, the party’s highest making body, at its meeting in May had rejected his offer to step down.Ashok Chavan offered his resignation in May and said that Rahul Gandhi will now decide the next step for Congress.”We want Rahul Gandhi to take strong steps, make necessary changes and lead our party,” Chavan said.Maharashtra and especially Mumbai was the bastion of the Congress party two Lok Sabha elections ago.Now, the condition of Congress in Maharashtra is quite unfavourable.
