NEW STEW Meet Local Author Marty Conley On Julys Book Stew

first_imgWILMINGTON, MA — Not every writer is an English/Language Arts teacher, but many of those educators have books inside their heads.  In the July Book Stew, host Eileen MacDougall interviews local author Marty Conley of Burlington’s Marshall Simonds Middle School.Marty’s two young adult books, “The Dead Man Story” and its sequel “Dean Man’s River,” are targeted squarely at young teenage boys who generally don’t enjoy reading. His characters — Myles, Brady and Kat — are three hockey players who enjoy risky behavior, such as climbing water towers, but Myles has physical manifestations of extreme anxiety.Marty, a father of four, feels that many of the students he meets in real life also suffer from the same condition, as he is vastly sympathetic to their stress. Each book starts out with a dead body (one based on Marty’s true experience) and a bang, keeping all readers eager to find out how the three friends are going to solve the crime while avoiding their parents’ laser beam gazes. These mysteries are not just for kids!Watch the episode, courtesy of Wilmington Community Television, below:—Video Player Up/Down Arrow keys to increase or decrease volume.—Like Wilmington Apple on Facebook.
