Workshops available for practitioners working with Greek Australians

first_imgAs part of the Australian Greek Welfare Society’s (AGWS) workshops for professionals program, interactive workshops are available regarding culturally appropriate care training for people working with Greek individuals, families or carers. Participants will be given the opportunity to explore awareness, skills and knowledge of cultural competence with an experienced trainer and cross-cultural facilitator.Various helpful topics will be covered, including ethnicity, identity and how it may affect service delivery; common attitudes and cultural traits; attitudes to seeking help and/or services; religion; family and many others. The workshop offered by the AGWS is unique in that its practice focus is based on a Training Needs Analysis from 2013/14 with 79 organisations cross-regionally, and additionally refers to the CALD Effective Engagement Strategy framework for Cross-cultural communication.With a strong focus on self-reflection and group process, courses are available to cater to all levels including beginners, advanced and those wanting a refresher. The cost to participate is $165 per person and includes handouts and other useful materials. Additionally, service providers dealing with people of Greek background and wanting to develop their cultural competency are encouraged to inquire about customised workshops for individuals and groups.
