Aaron Craft named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year

OSU won, 69-67.Credit: Kelly Roderick / For The LanternSenior guard Aaron Craft topped off his final season at Ohio State by adding another award to his list.For the second time in the last three seasons, Craft has been named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year.Craft led the Ohio State men’s basketball to a 23-8 record and the No. 5 seed in the Big Ten Tournament. The Buckeyes recorded the seventh best defense in the country, only allowing 59.1 points per game. He also led the conference with 2.58 steals per game in 2014.On Sunday against Michigan State, Craft set the Big Ten record for most all-time steals. Craft also leads the Buckeyes in career steals and assists.Craft was named to the All-Big Ten second team by the media as well as the All-Big Ten third team by the coaches. He also was named to the All-Big Ten defensive team for the third consecutive year.Junior guard Shannon Scott was also named to the All-Big Ten defensive team, with junior forward LaQuinton Ross joining Craft on the coaches All-Big Ten third team.Next up, Craft and the Buckeyes are scheduled to take on Purdue Thursday in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Tipoff is scheduled for 25 minutes after the finish of the day’s first game between Illinois and Indiana. read more
