(Photo by Christian Petersen/Getty Images)The 2019 college football season is a long ways off, but predictions for the season are coming in fast. ESPN has added their hat to the ring with a prediction of the best offenses next season.According to ESPN’s Football Power Index, the top 5 offenses have been determined. Somewhat unsurprisingly, the Clemson Tigers have taken the top spot.Last year, the Tigers trounced nearly all of their opponents, averaging 44.3 points per game – fourth in the FBS. They scored at least 50 points in four of their games, and outscored ACC opponents Louisville and Wake Forest by a combined 140-19.The other four are Alabama, Oklahoma, Georgia, and Oregon, in that order.Alabama had the third-best scoring offense in the FBS last year, scoring 45.6 points per game. But no team scored more touchdowns than the Crimson Tide with 92.Oklahoma had the best scoring offense last year, scoring a whopping 48.4 points per game before crashing down to Earth against Alabama in the Orange Bowl.Georgia was 14th in scoring last year, but bring in plenty of playmakers next year that can really get the most out of quarterback Jake Fromm. As for Oregon, the team is expected to thrive under star quarterback Justin Herbert, who passed up a chance to leave early and join the NFL in favor of making one more run with the Ducks.Absent from the list was Utah State, which finished second in points per game last year with 47.5 en route to an 11-2 record and a win over North Texas in the New Mexico Bowl.

(University of Georgia), Chapel Hill, North Carolina (UNC) and State College, Pa. (Penn State).Unsurprisingly, though, there are some extremely weird choices, like Metairie, Louisiana. What college is even located there? These maps are frequently stupid but Metairie is a suburb and I’m not even aware which college is located there. https://t.co/yJpNXZ5leT— Dan Wolken (@DanWolken) March 3, 2019The map might feature some truly bizarre choices, but it’s done its job – we’re talking about it.
